The Camp Abilities Story

In 1996 Lauren Lieberman, then an assistant professor at SUNY Brockport, started a small educational sports camp for children with visual impairments called Camp Abilities with 27 children. In 2000 she expanded to Palmer, Alaska. Today there are Camp Abilities programs in over 20 locations in the US and in 10 countries. Come to this talk and hear the remarkable story of this epic journey to help children with visual impairments and their families around the globe.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn the origin of Camp Abilities.
  • Participants will understand where the current Camps are held and how to get their children involved.
  • Participants will know where to go for information if they want to start their own physical activity program.
This session was presented by Lauren Lieberman on April 10, 2023.
