Description
In this next in the series of AER-LIFT programs, come and
learn about the past, present and future of AER’s role in our field as a
catalyst for positive change and a fierce voice in defense of specialized
services and the professionals who make them happen. Join AER’s Executive
Director, Lee Sonnenberg, President-Elect, Mark Richert, and head of the
Council of Division Chairs, Raychel Callary, for an in-depth look at which
specific major national achievements in special education, vision and voc
rehab, and environmental access can be collectively credited to AER’s leaders,
staff and members. Come learn about what’s happening now with respect to
advocacy for improved educational, rehabilitative and aging services and
systems, and add your voice to ours as we explore together how to even more
boldly defend, expand and promote the professional disciplines in our field
that daily achieve meaningful results for children, students, clients and
patients. Come and be prepared to be surprised by both the public and
behind-the-scenes impact that your membership dollars and dedication are having
to enable AER to build on this decades-long legacy of landmarks and milestones.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn about the major federal legislative, regulatory, funding and related progress that has been achieved in the last quarter century that has a direct bearing on how vision rehabilitation and education professionals do their jobs daily.
- Acquire practical tips on how to most effectively advocate for specialized services to individuals with vision loss, including how to mobilize others when supervisors, systems or other circumstances may restrict a professional’s ability to be an advocate.
- Gain an understanding of how coalitions work and how consensus can be developed among fierce advocates who may have widely divergent viewpoints; attendees will leave with stronger skills in navigating disagreement in order to “get to YES”.
