Description
Guardianship
has traditionally been the default option for people who need help making
decisions. We now understand that some people can get the help they need
without the assistance of a legal guardian. Supported decision-making and other
alternatives to guardianship can offer a way for people to make their own decisions
even if they need extra help with the process. In this session we will describe
supported decision-making and other alternatives to guardianship. Additionally,
we will provide some examples of how real people are using supported
decision-making and offer some resources that can help anyone get started.
Primary
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will understand the paradigm of supported decision-making.
- Participants will learn how people use supported decision-making in their lives.
- Participants will discover resources that can assist in the implementation of supported decision-making.
This session is presented on March 4, 2022 by Laura Butler.
