Outdoor Recreation Experiences of Youth with Visual Impairments

Outdoor recreation has many benefits for youth. Benefits may be more profound in youth with visual impairments as the involvement in outdoor recreation activities provides improved self-determination and socialization. Join Lauren Lieberman and Megan Hale to learn about a qualitative phenomenological study which determined the lived outdoor recreation experiences of youth with visual impairments. They will also share many tried and true modifications for some popular outdoor activities such as archery, biking, hiking, kayaking, stand up paddleboard, fishing, orienteering, cross country skiing, rock climbing, and more.

Participants will:
1. Learn about a study of youth between the ages of 9-19 years about their outdoor recreation experiences.
2. Understand the various modifications that can be made to ensure success for youth with visual impairments.

Presented by Lauren Lieberman, Ph.D., and Megan Hale.
