    Description

Disability is complex, dynamic, multidimensional and contested. Disability Rights Mississippi (DRMS) is a private, non-profit corporation with a federal mandate to protect and advocate for the rights of individuals with disabilities across the state of Mississippi. During this presentation participants will learn about DRMS provision of advocacy services to Mississippians with disabilities and how it has helped improve the lives of thousands of Mississippi’s most vulnerable population by championing their rights.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Participants will increase their understanding of how the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) help adults and children with disabilities to be able to live in the community.
    • Participants will be able to explain relevant civil rights issues in Mississippi.
    • Participants will be able to describe opportunities for people receiving services and their families to work together with providers and policy makers to bring about person-centered system reform.
This session is presented by Sylvester Crosby and Herbert Humphrey.
