    STRIVE4You will discuss methods, equipment, and techniques for adapting recreational and sporting activities for people who are visually impaired or blind using their unique Access To Inclusion Plan. The goal is to give practical resources to ensure a level playing field for all!

    Learning Objectives:

    • Participants will identify various types of adaptive sports and potential opportunities available to people with visual impairments within their community and across the country.
    • Participants will apply general adaptations to mainstream sports & recreational activities to better serve & advocate individual needs during exercise, recreation or sports.
    • Participants will identify different sources to obtain adaptive equipment to enhance the recreation or sporting experience of a person who is visually impaired or blind.
    This session is presented by Ricky Jones and Christy Ray.

    • Ricky Jones

      Ricky Jones is a husband and father of three. He is an accomplished athlete living in Nashville TN, who competes nationally in sports like goalball and bowling. Ricky has completed two full New York Marathons, 5 half Marathons, and tons of smaller runs around the country. In his spare time he likes to participate in beep kickball, tandem cycling, and backyard football with his children. Mr. Jones is the co‐Executive Director of STRIVE4You and currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors. The majority of Ricky’s experience is through his amazing work for the past 11 years providing adaptive sports and almost 5 years teaching self‐defense to people with disabilities.

    • Christy Ray

      Christy Ray is a co‐founder and the Co‐Executive Director of STRIVE4You. She has over nine years of experience in nonprofit leadership and teaching adaptive sports to people with disabilities. She has also worked extensively throughout her professional career to teach assistive technology, adaptive physical fitness, self‐defense, and personal advocacy. Christy is an accomplished athlete in goalball, tandem cycling, beep kickball, and running—where she has completed one full New York Marathon, at least five half marathons, and way too many smaller runs to count. Christy lives in Madison, Tennessee, with her family and first guide dog, Aslan. She says, “I just want to live life every day to its fullest and be a positive influence to my children and everyone I meet!”
